So eight days on the East Walker and a few minutes on Hot Creek…wind, cold and a little snow…lots of willing fish for some patterns I have been waiting to try out. A full report will follow…
Michael…the Trout catching machine and PT on the East Walker River, Bridgeport, CA…
One of many Mr. Browns that came to our flies…
Michael with a nice “chunky” Rainbow that took one of PT’s lead fly, attractor patterns…
What a trip…

Whole lot more water than when I was there last Summer. Whole lot more fish too. probably because you didn’t have some yahoo walking down the middle of the river like I did. Nice job, beautiful country.

Nice fish! It’s amazing how many big fish are pulled out of hot creek.
Shoreman,
There were a lot less YAHOOs before 1987 and that film…the trick is, to wait till they move on(and, they do) staying on the water till dark is the ticket…

hey p/t it was nice seeing you down on east walker with your son. thank you for the fly you gave me as soon as i put it on i got into my first trout of the morning. i have a question about the famous tailwater, have you ever tried czech nymphing there I’ve really been reading a lot about it and am very curious about it, if you have tried it what flies have been successful for you there? caddis seem to be the fly of chose for czech style but i love to fish midge patterns there along with mayflies is it possible to fish these patterns (mostly midge) on a czech rig? thank you for all the great advise I’ve learned from this site over the last year. -Travis-
Travis,
I put you in my current post…good meeting you. Czech nymphing uses patterns that imitate Caddis..it is possible to set a rig for midges…ck. out what my set up is in the current posting. It gets my flies down deep where the fish are…FAST. I’d use the CZ method on the EW when the flows are much higher or in the deeper pools when they are not. The heaviest fly in that set up is the middle fly…the other two are going to be in the drift at different positions, off the bottom, in the water column. IT IS PRIMAILY DESIGNED FOR MUCH LARGER FLIES THAN MIDGES. When I fish my system, all the line is kept off the water, except when casting directly upstream…There is also French Nymphing, Polish nymphing and Spanish nymphing. GOOGLE Aaron Jasper for details…
