Rumor has it that this company will one again be making its’ tying threads and other products available…
“WEL-TEC LLC purchased the assets of Gudebrod Industries LLC in 2010. WEL-TEC is manufacturing all the products that Gudebrod made in their Fishing, Craft/Specialty, and Threads Divisions. The same equipment and a few of the same people making everything the same way. We have all the Rod Building Threads including Nylon, NCP, and HT Metallics in 100yd, 1 ounce and 4oz put-ups. Bait-Rigin’ floss and rod building accesories, including Fish-Grippers and Fold-Away glasses. Our Craft area includes Artificial Sinew, Silk bead stringing and braids. Finally we have the Industrial thread division making MIL-spec threads for the aircraft industry as well as custom coated braids. Everything is Made In The USA.”
At the moment, availability is limited…the threads may be found here:
The 10/0 is available here – in limited colors (5.17.2013):
Their 10/0, 8/0 and 6/0 threads came in colors one just could not find elsewhere…
…Merry XMAS, Andy Baird !!! – “ hang on to your 327 spools of light grey, it may become the Chadwicks 477 of tying thread some day”
Yeah, I am working on those MIDGES…

any links to shops in the USA selling that thread? i’d rather buy from a shop in the USA rather than paying in British Pounds.
Norm,
None that I am aware of yet. I will check with Bob Marriott’s here in LA. I used to pick it up there before it went extinct and they will usually order stuff for me if I ask them… (nicely)…kbprocter, over on FAOL, was going to talk to the Wel-Tec Sales Manager on Monday to see what he could set up…

OH MY GOD!!
OH please, please let this be true. I have never found an adequate substitute for the Gudebrod 10/0… I tie a lot of small flies. Nothing else come CLOSE!
SS

Norman,
10-4 and Happy Holidays !!!

This is fantastic news! Thanks for the heads-up Tim… will keep a look out for stock hitting the shops.
Best to you and yours for 2012.
Andy
Anyone heard anything about the return of Gudebrod products? It seems that some kind souls have bought the brand and are putting the materials back in to production.

Anyone else found that this thread in 10/0 is just unbeatable for small flies? I stockpiled about fifteen spools of it when I heard production was stopping.
The first time I used it I knew it was the best thread I’d ever use.
Anyone else share my delight at this news?
Yes…I do…
PT/TB 🙂
Where can I buy this thread in the US ?
Martin,
Nowhere as of the moment…unless it’s the old stuff on ebay…Hope fully, the company will get their act together SOON…
Best,
PT/TB 🙂
Wel Tec is out of business (AGAIN)… I’ve been waiting on a large order of sinew since early Nov 2012. Here we are in 2013 and the Wel Tec telephone number is not working. Even the cell phone numbers are not being answered. I found another company making almost all the same stuff here in the USA. Consolidated Thread Mills, the stock numbers are quite different, but the sinew and whipping twines are the same products. The sinew is much superior actually. The prices are higher, but with the good quality, well worth it. And the lady who answered the phone said the prices are higher but they aren’t going out of business..lol …If you contact them they will send you sample pieces of the strings they make, hope this helps some of you, it certainly helped me. here’s their website http://www.consolidatedthreadmills.com
Liz,
Thanks for the information. In looking at the CTM site, it appears that none of the threads they produce, have immediate application to fly tying…
