That Annelid is up next…in the meantime, here are some bugs, held in low esteem by most fly fishermen, that catch lots of big Trout in places other than the Bighorn or rivers in the Ozarks…

MOO LOBBING EWR -1-I would not have any qualms about tying one of these patterns on and using them in waters like the above East Walker River – as an attractor. They are buggy and may be taken as scuds or, in the case of the pink versions, as eggs. Trout are opportunistic … my job is to present the opportunity…

WEIGHT: .015 -.010 Lead wire or .015 Lead Sub. – flattened

RIB: Ice Thread, Gray /Olive

SHELL BACK: Strand of Firefly, Silver

UNDER ABDOMEN: UV2 Scud Shrimp, Gray

OVER ABDOMEN: Micro UV Pearl Chenille, Olive (or Gray)

* Coat the thread covered abdomen with Zap-A-Gap or Super Glue, then wrap dubbing

* Coat the completed fly, after brushing out with Velcro strip or .30 cal. bore brush, with UV resin of choice. Hit with UV torch then expose to sunlight. I gently clip the sides angling back towards the hook bend and then trim the bottom of the fly.

RIB Ice Thread, Pink

ABDOMEN: Equal parts – Ice Dub UV- Pink, UV2 Scud Shrimp- Pink, Sow Scud Dubbing- Pink

HACKLE: Hen Neck, White

BEAD: Spirit River, Hot Orange, sized to hook

* I brush out the dubbing with a Velcro strip and .30 cal. bore brush, trim top and bottom and angle cut the sides, towards the rear – before adding hackle

This is another standard Big Horn River pattern…(see link below)

THREAD: Gordon Griffith’s 14/0 Sheer, Gray

WEIGHT: .010 -..025 lead or .015 -.025 lead sub. – flattened and covered with Super Glue or Zap-A-Gap after covering with thread

SHELL BACK: Holographic Mylar Motio 1/64″ or 1/32″ – depending on hook size

ABDOMEN: Equal parts – Ice Dub UV Gray, UV2 Scud Shrimp Gray and Sow Scud dubbing, Rainbow

MICRO TUBING (GRAY): The dubbing mix is spun on the stretched tubing ( twisted with fingers and a liberal amount of saliva) and wrapped over the hook shank

* Brush out the finished dubbing with a Velcro strip or bore brush (.30 cal.) and clip on the top and bottom. On the sides, clip it angling towards the hook bend with the larger leg portions at the head of the fly

This is technique developed by OZ guide and tier Murray Wilson. Australia probably has more sow bugs than anywhere on the planet. HERE is how it is done…Get the hang of it and let one’s mind consider other possibilities…

* Coat flattened abdomen with Zap-A-Gap or Super Glue

* Brush out the dubbing with a Velcro strip or .30 cal. bore brush and clip top and bottom of dubbing…then, clip the sides angling towards the rear of the hook shank
