One of my FF buds from France recently created this tasty little morsel, which I immediately appropriated for my arsenal of Spring fly patterns. Marc Fauvet, otherwise known as:

Planète Mouche

has most of Western Europe wired…I first saw his stuff on SEXYLOOPS, on their forum, which features some of the best tiers from all over the globe. This fly imitates the free living, Rhyacophilidae caddis larva, found world wide. I especially liked Marc’s use of the dumbbell ( or DAZL-EYES from Spirit River ) for the head and eyes. I tweaked them a bit by using Mirage Stick on Eyes from Wapsi. The weight from the Dazl Eyes flips the hook over in the water allowing it to ride hook up…assisting in a natural bounce on the bottom and maybe, less lost flies (MICHAEL in mind)…anyone with the word PLANET in their handle, is OK by me…

HOOK: TMC 2457, #12-#16, Mustad CO68, #12-#16, Daiichi 1120, #12-#16

THREAD: UNI 6/0 Black

RIB: Wapsi, Medium or Small, Copper

ABDOMEN: Marc uses a mixture of different flashy dubbing, I used a 50/50 mix of Angler’s Choice, Fire Star, Caddis ( FS-106) and  SLF PRISM, Caddis  Green

WEIGHT: Lead or non-toxic lead substitute wire, 8-10 wraps, .010

THORAX: Marc used a custom blend including Peacock Ice Dub, I used a 50/50 mix of SLF PRISM Peacock (194) and Peacock Ice Dub

HEAD/EYES: Spirit River, Dazl-Eyes, Gold and Wapsi, Flat Stick on Eyes – Mirage…lock thread and eyes with Zap-a-Gap, two coats of SHAN…this is done FIRST

A nice place to drop some of these little critters intobelow Varney Bridge on the Madison River, MT….
