A little tardy in getting this post together. This is a trip I took with my daughter Ally, her boyfriend Nick and Hero the dog back in the middle of November in 2018. It was cold and the current state of steelhead runs, both A & B, coming up into the Snake river system are just awful – to put it mildly. WE left Pullman, WA way too early in the morning and arrived at the bottom of Rattlesnake Grade before the sun came up. Did I mention that it was really cold ???

A few new things I got for this trip:

Patagonia Stealth Atom Sling Pack

NAUTILUS CCFX2 REEL…

I almost picked up one of the rods but will wait a few more months before doing so…Buelah Platinum Spey Fly Rod, 13’2″, 7wt. Below is a map location of The Grande Ronde River in Southeastern Washington…

Grande Ronde River Map…

Chemtrails above the Grande Ronde…🤪

So we drove around for awhile to warm up. This is above Boggan’s Oasis, the only outpost of civilization along this stretch of river in Washington…

Frosty parking spot for Nick’s Landcruiser above the river…

Hero takes Ally for a walk…

Ok there it is, go for it…

Ally  – The Packmule…

Looks like someone arranged those rocks for soaking in the Summer…

Nick wades in and starts nymphing…

Up river, or looking North…

Down river, or looking South towards Oregon…

So, while Nick was nymphing, I was swinging #6 bugs…these are the results…

These guys laughed at me and left…

So did these guys in the gallery…

They were everywhere !

We moved to another spot up river, where I actually ran into a guy who was float fishing and he said he caught one smaller Steelie…this was the only person that I spoke to , all day, that caught a fish…

Hero, Ally and Nick…warming up in the sunlight that finally came over the canyon walls…

A campfire pit at our next stop…

Lunch time !!!

I spent some time working with Nick on his nymphing style. This is the first time he had nymphed for Steelhead…

This is a nice section of the Grande Ronde…

Another view from the same spot…

Time to move again…

Further up the river…

Another bend in the river…

One more…

Last stop…the sun was going behind the canyon wall at 3:20 PM…

Nick casts and steps down with a wet #4…

Boggan’s Oasis…This is the new building, the old, original structure burned to the ground the previous year…

Menu…

Placemat…

Ally has a BLT…

Pop has the Steak Sandwich…

Nick goes for the French Dip…

The “Get Away” driver holds down the fort…

Starting up Rattlesnake Grade

Getting curvy…

Into the hairpins…
