I like using the TMC 103BL hooks for thin patterns. I also like using Roman Moser Shock Gum Loops when using these more fragile hooks and just generally too. They add about a Lb. of strength to the tippet material being used and lessen the straightening of said hooks on larger Trout that take the fly in heavy water…these are the shock gum loops:

Time to put some materials on all these TMC Competition Jig Hooks I have accumulated in the past several months…I will also be using TMC 100SPBL, TMC 2499 SP BLB and some TMC 103BL hooks for the majority of the ties. Some of these will be sent to Michael for a trip he is planning with Aimee up to Roscoe, NY and the waters in that area…as usual, I will put the patterns up, shoot the materials then include the recipes and whatever else slips into my mind…

BEAD: Plummeting Tungsten Bead, Purple, sized to hook

Purple is the color in the spectrum that is the last to disappear in deep water. I tie them, as nymphs for use in high, low light and off-color water conditions…Michael just slams the residents on the East Walker River with patterns I tie in this color when the flows are in the 350cfs. – 450cfs, range…he will get out in the current and wade in places that I might have gone into – years ago...

DUSKER MOO EWR -2-MOO go “BOOM”, with violet (purple), at dusk, on the East Walker River…

SLIMBOU OLIVE -1-SLIMBOU OLIVE TUNG NYMPH …

I have been asked a couple of times how the Marabou is used for an abdomen…so here goes…

TWISTING MARABOU -1-For the hook being used, clip the proper ( your call) number of fibers, at the base , off a Marabou stem. I use select Marabou from Wapsi…here, I am using 4 fibers

TWISTING MARABOU -2-Tie in the fibers at the rear of the shank by the TIPS, wrap the thread (Tiemco 16/0, Olive) forward, locking in the tips then back to the tie in point…

TWISTING MARABOU -3-Twist the marabou fibers clock-wise around the thread THEN, advance the rope forward to the thorax area…

TWISTING MARABOU -4-Tie off the Marabou rope and clip the excess… I add a half hitch here…

TWISTING MARABOU -5-Rib the Marabou abdomen – because it is fragile, with material(s) of choice… I am using x-sm Copper wire with 1 strand of Rusty Brown Krystal Flash wrapped – clock wise around the wire for this pattern…and NO, the tail won’t look like that when I am finished…
