BLUE ICE MIDGE:

HOOK: TMC 2487, Daiichi 1130, # 18-22

THORAX: Black UV Ice Dub

POISON TUNG:

HOOK: TMC 2487, Daiichi 1130, # 18-22
THREAD: Gordon Griffith 14/0, Gray
RIB: Largutan Blue or Wapsi XSM, Blue wire
THORAX: Gray UV Ice Dub
BEAD: Silver Tung

A Charlie Craven pattern that Rainbows “bonk” on the Lower “O” in Dec.-Feb….

COPPER STARLING MIDGE (SH):

HOOK: Alec Jackson, North Country, # 17, 2x short
THREAD: Gordon Griffith 14/0, Black
ABDOMEN: Largutan or Wapsi XSM, Copper Wire
THORAX: Peacock Ice Dub or SLF Prism, peacock ( I like this stuff!!!)
HACKLE: Starling underwing feather

As with the flies directly below, just sub wire color. I some times coat the wire with Aquaflex or Dave’s Flexament before tying the thorax. Alec Jackson hooks RULE…

CHART WRAPOVER CADDIS:

OVERBODY: Stalcup’s Glitter Rib, Clear or Chart
THORAX: Black UV Ice DUb
HACKLE: Dyed Olive Partridge

A flashy, streamlined when wet, Caddis Pupae. Use in the Spring in highor off – colored water.
I like this for the Lower Owens…

BROWN WRAPOVER CADDIS:

I use holo brown Ice Dub for the underbody on this one and Amber Glitter Rib for the overbody.The thorax is olive brown Ice Dub or SLF Prism. The Hackle is Natural Partridge.


GREEN WRAPOVER CADDIS:

HOOK: Alec Jackson, North Country, # 13-17
THREAD: Gordon Griffth 14/0 Brown
ABDOMEN: Olive Brown Ice Dub or Olive Brown SLF Prism
OVERBODY: Lt. Olive Micro tubing
THORAX: Peacock SLF Prism or Peacock Ice Dub
HACKLE: Olive Dyed Partridge

I developed this fly for the East Walker River as an alternative to the “Tailwater Tiny”.I also tie this in brown too. It works REAL good…

BH WRAPOVER TAN CADDIS:

HOOK: TMC 206 BL, # 14-18
UNDERBODY: Tan UV Ice DUB
OVERBODY: Tan micro tubing
THORAX: Peacock Ice Dub or Peacock SLF Prism
HACKLE: Natural Partridge
GLASS BEAD: Rootbeer SM

DIVING TAN CADDIS (SH):

Another Allen McGee soft hackle pattern which works much better that most of the commercial tie diving Caddis (Egg Laying) flies I have tried. It has caught more than one fish this past Spring on the Lower “O” below 5 Bridges…

SPARKLE CADDIS PUPAE, NON- LF:

HOOK: TMC 206 BL, # 14-18
THREAD: Gordon Griffth 14/0, Olive
VEIL (bubble): Sparkle Emerger Yarn, Olive
ABDOMEN: Insect Green Dub
WINGS: Brown Antron Yarn, pulled up and clipped
THORAX: Peacock Ice Dub

Non La Fontaine, who probably knew more about Caddis and how to imitate and catch fish with them than anyone on the planet. Just a touch of flash and air bubble retainer…

VW TNT CADDIS:

HOOK: TMC 2487, Daiici 1130, # 14-18

BEAD: Gunmetal or Peacock, glass
VEIL: 1 ply, Green, or Tan Antron (Zelon) over back
ABDOMEN: Ice Dub or SLF Prism, olive Brn., Caddis Grn., Tan, Orange
WING BUDS: Brown Antron
THORAX: Peacock or Black UV Ice Dub
ANTENNAE: Micro Centipede Rubber Legs (Tan, Brown or Green)

Another great pattern from Vince Wicox. Color depends on species present and size usually diminishes a the year prgresses. I use this fly on the Owens tailed behind a Spotlight or Elk Hair Caddis Dry two sizes larger…

SKINNY NELSON:

HOOK: Daiichi 1560, TMC 3761, # 16-20

BEAD: (optional) Black Tung
ABDOMEN: Wapsi Ultra, 70 Denier, Black
TAIL: Ringneck Pheasant Tail Fibers

A Tracy Peterson pattern, abdomen tied thin. Useful for Baetis and Midge hatches!!!

KRYSTAL FLASH RUSTY MAY:

ABDOMEN: 2 strands Rust KF, 1 strand Olive KF, flat or twisted

A good attractor pattern. KF colors may be varied to matck Mayfly color. I LIKE this guy!!!


VIRUS MIDGE: (GREEN,BLACK and RED)

ABDOMEN: Thread – Wapsi Ultra, 70 Denier, Red, Black, Olive , Tan, Gray

Hard to find pattern. Rainy’s catalogue has it listed, Feathercraft used to, at one time. Some fellow across the pond has it listed in orange… I use it on the East Walker below the dam to the bridge in late Winter…

BH BAETIS:

HOOK: TMC 2488, #18-22
THREAD: Gordon Griffith 14/0, Black
TAIL: Pheasant Tail Fibers
UNDERABDOMEN: White uni 8/0
ABDOMEN: Superhair, 1 Clear, 1 Black

Variation on Charlie Craven’s pattern. I use this as a trailer behind a Snowshoe Baetis in the Spring, Both flies take fish…

Charlie Craven’s KILLER Baetis and Midge pattern. I works almost everywhere I have used it. My Midge and Baetis boxes are filled with these in all sorts of color combinations…

One strand of Red and two strands of Clear Superhair…

GREEN RED WIRE MIDGE

HOOK: Daiichi 1140, #18-22

JD’S PURPLE THREAD MIDGE

ABDOMEN: Gudebrod Rod Wrapping thread, (appropriate color)
FLASH: Pearl Crystal Flash over built up GG thread

An excellent Jude Duran fly. In this case, I have substituted purple floss wrapped over with clear mico tubing. The Gudebrod standard patterns are below…

Easy tie fly…Colors may be varied. The micro tubing assists in making the abdomen traslucent…love this stuff.

HOOK: Daiichi 1140, #18-22

ABDOMEN: Blue KF
OVERABDOMEN: Clear Micro Tubing

I like this pattern for Winter fishing on the OWENS. I have picked up some nice “BOWS” in the WT section on this fly…
