So Michael is supposed to be traveling out here to CA for time on some Eastern Sierra waters…here are a few things I am whipping up before he gets here. Our trip to the Eastern Sierras is HERE. Due to water conditions, our best fishing came on the high elevation lakes…a lot of these patterns will see use, in October when Ally and I got up up Bishop to fish some lakes and the Lower Owens river from there…
A taste of some Trout we caught yesterday…(8.25.2016)…

When I first came across the “Shop Vac”, at Blue Ribbon Flies in West Yellowstone, it was tied with this thread abdomen and did not have a peacock thorax. They caught plenty of Trout on the Madison and on the East Walker and Lower Owens rivers. I always carry some of these and the variants in my nymph boxes because they work…

That is a dandy looking fly! Could have used a few of those yesterday on the Cumberland River here in Kentucky!
Hi Tim,
Eagerly await your completed PMD post. Glad to see you will have some Eastside fishing with your son. Savor the moments.
Hi Tim,
Glad to hear from you. Nice terrestrial’s!
The colors on the seal buggers are definitely cosmic :-)). Being acquainted with Mr. Rickards for a long time, IMO I think that they are overdressed. I want to see some fish pics with these hipster dressings….:-))
Thanks for the reminder for me to tie up some Shop Vac’s.
Wishing your family and you fine angling this fall.
Cheers!
Scott
Scott,
Wait till ya’ see the ones with the pink marabou tails… :-). Overdressed ???…This guy didn’t think so:

Tim, I find it hard to believe that your son didn’t practice catch and release. This great fish would have made fabulous brood stock.

Scott,
That particular Rainbow Trout came from here:
http://www.desertspringstroutfarm.com
It is a triploid, a sterile Trout that will not be reproducing – ever…note the clipped tail in the photo. That is a dead giveaway that it is not a wild fish… 🙂
